Travel Tales: El Nido, Palawan

by Rio Sebastian

If you’re looking to escape the bitter cold of winter, El Nido, Palawan is the best destination there is. It has beautiful white beach islands, far away from the madding crowd, with lots of fun water activities to offer as well. In Palawan, you don’t even need to go deep diving to be able to appreciate the richness of the sea. The colorful corals and vast variety of aquatic life offer such a wonderful feast to the eyes even with the waters in its shallowest.

My family and I had the most wonderful time last year going back to the Philippines and staying at Lagen, El Nido Resorts. To get there, we had to take a local flight via AirSwift. From El Nido airport, you take a short ride to the ferry. And from the ferry, you take a short boat ride to the island resort.

It was really too bad I was not able to bring my underwater camera. We had so many opportunities for taking photos and videos underwater while snorkeling. At one point, I even saw two cute little clown fishes tossing toward each other a small sand dollar. It was the cutest thing ever!

Aside from diving and snorkeling, they also have other activities like boat fishing, regular island-hopping tours, bird watching, kayaking and paddling. I also particularly appreciated the food sooo much coz I really miss Filipino food, especially the heavy breakfast!

We loved how the resort was family oriented, quiet, and that the staff were super friendly and helpful.

This was actually my third trip to Palawan. The first time I was there, I was in Puerto Princesa, and the second time was in Coron. I would say that all these islands are special on their own. But El Nido is the most memorable of all because I got to go there with my loved ones. 🙂
