On the evening of 20th of December 2020, the Amitié Franco-Philippine en Midi-Pyrénées (AFPMP) held a virtual Christmas party via Messenger. It was well attended by its members together with their family and friends who were with them in their respective homes.
The master of the ceremony was the multi-talented Treasurer, Ms Roda Decena-Hebrard. It started off with an opening prayer by a former board member, Ms Cristina Crosland, followed by a warm welcome address by the gracious Lady President, Ms Tess Thomasin.
The Philippine Honorary Consul to Toulouse, Mr Jeffrey Augustus Cabuay, also imparted a very truthful and hopeful message to his fellow Filipinos, highlighting our shared, difficult feelings of having to cancel a long-awaited holiday trip back to the Philippines due to the pandemic.
Afterwards, the festive mood picked up again through the intermission dance number led by the gorgeous member, Ms Anna Caberte, together with the adorable mother-and-daughter tandem of the Lady President and her princess, Jade. They danced to the song of Jerusalema by Master KG featuring Nomcebo.
The fun and laughter continued to flow alternately with the amateur singing contest and the raffle draw open to all members. The first contestant was Ms Elvie Kolmayer who sang a Christmas carol entitled Oh Holy Night! and was followed by the raffling of 4 Carrefour gift cards.
The second contestant was Ms Jhoanna Gaucherreau who rendered Bonnie Tyler’s popular song entitled If I Sing You a Love Song, and then another 3 E. Leclerc gift cards were given away.
The third contestant and the only male to croon that evening was Monsieur Fred Mennier who serenaded everyone with Ed Sheeran’s love song entitled Perfect, after which another 3 Auchan gift cards were raffled off.
The fourth contestant was Ms Rose Manubag who touched everyone with her heartfelt song entitled We Could Have It All by Maureen McGovern. Thereafter, several Cards for All Occasions by the Toulouse-based Filipino watercolor artist Ms Gemma Autret were drawn.
Last but definitely not the least, and in fact, the winner of the amateur singing contest was Ms Nicole Mennier who effortlessly sang the inspiring song, You are The Music in Me from the popular t.v. series High School Musical 2 and she bagged a Sephora gift card.
Likewise, the grand prize for the raffle draw, which is a soup maker was drawn last and won by none other than the writer of this article who initially couldn’t believe her luck as she rarely wins in any raffle draw in the past!
Towards the end of the celebration, the Lady President presented all the charity works that the association was able to accomplish in 2020, most especially during the aftermath of the devastating supertyphoon Ulysses in the Philippines in November 2020.
Finally, the very creative Vice President, Madame Estelle Kerjean, expressed her sincerest closing remarks and wished everyone a wonderful Christmas time and a blessed New Year.
The young winner of the singing contest, Nicole, was joined by her father, Monsieur Fred Mennier, in a sweet duet of the Disney theme song entitled A Whole New World, thereby concluding the 2020 AFPMP virtual Christmas Party.
Definitely, there were still so many things to be grateful for despite how the year has been. Oftentimes, we could find genuine happiness in the simplest of moments.
Goodbye 2020… Hello to a kinder and more compassionate 2021 for all of us!
